Orrville council approves minutes and December fund report; mayor announces former mayor's death

The Orrville City Council on Feb. 16 approved routine meeting business including the minutes from Feb. 2, 2026, and the city’s December 2025 fund-balance report (each action was announced as passed by the chair during roll-call votes). Mayor Flagman opened administrative reports by saying it was "with sadness" that the city shared the passing of former Mayor Dennis Steiner, who served from 1996 to 2007; Flagman said flags at city buildings will be lowered to half-staff in his honor.

During roll call earlier in the meeting council members were recorded present; the council president asked for a motion to approve the Feb. 2 minutes, which was moved by Councilor Carr and seconded; the chair announced the motion passed after members answered in the affirmative. Later the finance director distributed the 2026 budget-preparation calendar and asked for a motion to approve the December 2025 fund-balance report "subject to audit." A motion was made and the chair announced that motion passed.

No ordinances, appointments or formal policy changes were adopted at the meeting. The city’s legal recorder was not in attendance and the agenda contained no old or new business items. The council moved to adjourn after the police department presentation; a motion to adjourn was made by Squirrel, seconded by Mace, and the chair declared the motion carried. The chair announced the next regular meeting is Monday, March 2, 2026.
