Council appoints Morgan Mason to fill at‑large seat through 2027

Orrville City Council voted on Nov. 17 to appoint Morgan Mason to the at‑large council seat vacated by Kyle Shanklin and administered the oath of office.
A council member moved to add the appointment to the agenda and to approve Mason’s appointment to serve the remainder of the term ending Dec. 31, 2027. The motion passed; one council member, Espiritis, recorded an abstention when the roll was called and the appointment was approved by the remainder of the body. After the vote, Clerk administered the oath and Mason affirmed to support the U.S. Constitution, the city charter and ordinances and to discharge the duties of office impartially. “Congratulations,” Mayor Plyman said in welcoming the new member.
Mayor Plyman and council members offered brief congratulations and noted that, for the remainder of the year, Mason will chair the transportation committee. Council indicated it will reorganize committee assignments at the start of the new year.
The appointment closes the interim vacancy created by Kyle Shanklin’s departure; the term runs through Dec. 31, 2027. The council did not announce a special election or further procedural steps at the meeting’s conclusion.
