Dresden officials reviewed repair needs and the possible transfer of Jewett Station at the Jan. 27 Select Board meeting and agreed to pursue cost estimates before any acquisition.
Keith Allen reported that a review with Rick Brown found the building too small to house larger apparatus because a steel beam limits overhead clearance; Assistant Chief Gerald Lilly said the brush truck could fit. Lisa Hewitt said the Fire Association wants to sell the station to the town for $1.00 but noted the building needs masonry work on the chimney and interior repairs including posts and railings; animals have damaged ceiling insulation in the downstairs area. Nicole Rogers said she will seek someone (Paul Marseglia was suggested) to inspect the chimney and provide estimates. The board agreed the matter will go to public hearing before any sale or transfer.
Next steps: Town Administrator to solicit masonry and repair estimates; item to be scheduled for public hearing so voters can consider any transfer or purchase.
