Dresden Select Board approves minutes, warrants and veterans memorial stone purchase

The Dresden Select Board met Jan. 27 at Pownalborough Hall and approved a series of routine administrative items while authorizing the immediate purchase of a veterans memorial stone using funds on hand.
Board Chair Lisa Hewitt opened the meeting at 5:02 p.m. and the board approved corrected minutes from the Jan. 13 meeting after Hewitt said she had submitted corrections in advance. The board also voted to sign accounts payable and payroll warrants with a correction: Treasurer/Administrator Nicole Rogers will fix an ACO payment that had been charged to the wrong account.
The board approved assessor Joe Salley’s abatements; Nicole Rogers said the abatements were part of an account cleanup, and Ann noted six letters were sent concerning proposed tax-acquired property payments with payment deadlines. Several properties remain unresolved.
The largest formal financial action at the meeting concerned the Veterans' Memorial Committee. Committee member Steve Hewitt presented a monument design and said the group had "a little over $18,000.00 which is a good start" toward an initial granite center stone; Waste to Worth Redemption Center offered to donate an additional $1,000. The board approved a motion, moved by Jeff Bickford and seconded by Keith Allen, authorizing use of available committee funds to purchase the stone not to exceed $19,091. The committee plans to use future donations for landscaping, flags and benches and intends to dedicate the memorial to the late John Ottum, who had proposed the idea years earlier.
Other routine matters included the order of two solar, motion-activated lights for the transfer station/ice rink (Allan Moeller agreed to mount them) and fire-department updates: Assistant Chief Gerald Lilly reported recent storm-related calls, upcoming ladder testing and a disk-space issue on a department device that may require replacement.
The board set its next meeting for Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. and adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
What happens next: the veterans committee will proceed with the stone order and continued fundraising; Nicole Rogers will correct the ACO account charge and solicit masonry estimates where needed.
