At its Jan. 13 meeting the Dresden Selectboard reviewed an inventory of tax-acquired and foreclosure properties, many of which have been under foreclosure for extended periods and carry growing unpaid balances that increase town liability.
Selectboard members discussed that some property owners have proposed payment plans, while others appear to have abandoned properties. Ann Pierce, participating via Zoom, and other members stressed the need to review properties on a case-by-case basis and to establish a consistent policy for moving forward.
The board scheduled a workshop for next Wednesday to examine the list in detail, consider reasonable payment plans, and decide whether to pursue sales for some properties. Staff and board members emphasized weighing liability and enforcement costs, including issues tied to mobile homes located in areas such as Indian Run, when deciding whether to continue holding properties or to move toward disposition.
The meeting record does not specify the complete list of properties, balances or the exact next steps for each parcel; those details were deferred to the upcoming workshop.
