Stacey Maleckar, superintendent of Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD), reported to the commissioners on April 28 that the Early Intervention program (Early Adventures) served 238 children ages 0–2, a 16% increase from the prior February, and highlighted a long‑term rise in autism diagnosis rates. She said that in 2025 about 91% of Early Intervention expenses were funded by property tax and stressed the importance of that local revenue stream given possible Medicaid reductions.
Maleckar outlined services delivered by Early Intervention — physical and speech therapy, behavioral therapy and social‑skills development — and emphasized partnerships with childcare providers, local physicians and families. She also reported that MCBDD spent approximately $2.5 million on family support and supported living services in 2025, an increase of nearly 80% over four to five years, and described Safety Town Plus (in its 13th year) as a targeted program for kindergarten and first‑grade students with neurophysical and developmental disabilities.
The superintendent framed the program growth and funding reliance as a potential fiscal vulnerability if state Medicaid support changes; the commissioners received the update and recorded it in the meeting minutes.
