AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Austintown Township Board of Trustees on April 6 declared multiple properties throughout the township public nuisances and ordered owners to abate specified conditions or face township abatement and lien placement.
In Resolution #26‑04‑06‑14 the board enumerated more than two dozen parcels it found to be public nuisances under Ohio Revised Code 505.87, citing conditions including leaning or damaged fences, high grass and weeds, fallen trees blocking poles, exposed junk and debris, building rubble and materials obstructing water flow. The resolution gives property owners seven days to abate violations, or four days for repeat violations within 12 months, and authorizes the township to abate remaining nuisances with a minimum expense entry of $500 to the tax duplicate and lien on the property.
Examples in the resolution include a leaning fence at 6874 Berry Blossom Drive, high grass at 1244 Bexley Drive, a fallen tree near a telephone pole on North Canfield‑Niles Road, exposed construction debris at 4822 Mahoning Avenue, and multiple properties with junk and debris stored in exposed manner. The board also passed a separate resolution (Resolution #26‑04‑06‑15) declaring specific inoperable motor vehicles public nuisances under Ohio Revised Code 505.871 and ordering removal within 14 days after notice.
Trustee Robert Santos moved the nuisance resolution; Trustees Monica Deavers and Bruce Shepas seconded and voted yes on the motions. The resolutions carry the force of township code enforcement; the transcript records the board's formal order but does not include property‑owner responses or subsequent abatement schedules.
