Castine advances waterfront resilience planning; Harbor Committee reports new harbormaster boat and GEI study feedback

Bill Corbett, a Harbor Committee member, told the Selectboard the committee meets monthly and commended Harbormaster Scott Vogell for leading the new Town Dock project and handling required repairs. Corbett said that GEI recently held a public forum to collect citizen feedback and will prepare short- and long-term options, including resilience planning to the 100-year horizon, with funding recommendations due in March.
The Harbor Committee reported it has purchased a new harbormaster boat to replace the older craft that was failing after years of service. Committee members also raised gazebo replacement plans; the town has FEMA funds approved for a replacement but noted those funds are on hold following a federal executive order. Selectboard members discussed design tweaks (roof design and portability) and asked the harbormaster and public-works crew to coordinate on a rebuild plan.
GEI and Musson’s community forum results will feed the Waterfront Master Plan work. The Selectboard said it will await GEI’s short- and long-term recommendations and anticipated additional community forums to prioritize improvements and funding sources.
