The Dresden Select Board voted to allow Water Department manager Chuck Applebee to award a contract for work on seven water valves under Route 27 to the State’s proposal, after the State’s price came in lower than two other bidders.
Applebee told the board the valves have been paved over repeatedly and likely need risers and potentially additional work depending on what crews find when they excavate. He said the State’s bid was the low proposal and that the State will likely hire Allstate of Richmond to manage the on-the-ground work. “There are seven valves all together on the road,” Applebee said when outlining scope and budget responsibility.
Board members discussed contract administration and timing. Jeff Bickford moved to proceed with the State proposal; Keith Allen seconded and the motion carried. Allan Moeller, the town road agent, asked about timeline; Applebee said the State will notify the town in advance of scheduled work.
The board noted that funding for the work will come from the town’s water department budget. No formal vote tally was recorded in the meeting minutes beyond the board’s affirmative vote.
Next steps: Applebee will finalize the award under the authority given by the board and inform members when the State sets a schedule for excavation and riser installation.
