At its Feb. 5 meeting, the Eastport Parks & Rec Committee reviewed several upcoming programs and planning items including the dog-park concept for the March city budget, the Moonlight Movies schedule, cruise-ship welcome collaboration, and a tree-planting initiative.
Members discussed whether the committee could present a dog-park concept for the city's March budgeting process and asked staff what level of detail would be needed for the budget submission. Moonlight Movies was noted as requiring City Council review in May with a finalized movie list before council consideration.
Laurie and Christina will assist the Chamber with plans to welcome cruise ships once the Chamber finalizes those plans. Micah Winship described ongoing conversations with Phil Krajewski about formally acknowledging significant historic trees and launching a broader citywide tree-planting effort that could include fundraising and planting on residents' properties at their request.
The committee also assigned John to continue looking into legal questions about beach access at Prince Cove. No formal votes or funding commitments were made on these items during the meeting; staff follow-up and additional detail were requested.
