Council President Dee Hefner told the Committee of the Whole on May 6 that the North Baltimore Police Department has received both federal and state grants to purchase body armor, and that the related paperwork was included in council packets.
Officials also reported that patrol car 103 went down but was repaired under warranty. The panel heard that bullet-resistant glass and a protective wall installation at the police station are complete, but the station still requires a new exterior door. Council members cited an estimated cost of $13,000 for the door and said that expense will be included in next year’s budget.
The council flagged ongoing radio issues and said licensing and a repeater will be budgeted for next year to address them. "Chief Francisco will get with Chief Lafferty for some other options," the committee record states, indicating police leadership will explore technical alternatives.
No formal vote or purchase authorization was recorded at the meeting; councilors said budget entries will be considered in the next budget cycle.
