Mayor Steven R. Rose told the council the bridge in front of the old gas station by City Hall will be closed beginning July 7, 2025, for road work. He presented the closure as a scheduled infrastructure project and advised residents to check City Hall or the Baseheart Fire Station for current burn-ban information after recent windstorms caused downed power lines and an elevated fire risk.
Rose thanked the Street, Fire and Police departments and volunteers for their storm response and noted the city and surrounding areas were affected by tornadoes and high winds. No street-closure ordinances were approved at the March 20 meeting; the announcement was presented as an operational schedule item.
