Cherokee Village council adopts 2025 budget, OKs ARPA funds for new computers and a Christmas permit

The Cherokee Village City Council on Nov. 21 unanimously approved the proposed 2025 city budget and approved a resolution to use American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to buy replacement computers and software for administrative offices, the mayor's office and the street department.
Mayor Rose read Resolution No. 2024-17, which the council approved on a roll-call vote of 8–0 after Council Member J. Tatum moved to adopt it and Council Member Martin seconded. The resolution authorizes disbursement of ARPA funds for the technology purchases described in the resolution.
In a single-motion sequence of new-business items, the council also approved Special Use Permit 2024-17 for the community event "Christmas in the Village." Council Member Ishmael moved the permit; Council Member Martin seconded and the permit passed 8–0.
Council Member Smith moved to approve the proposed 2025 budget; J. Tatum seconded. The roll-call vote was unanimous, and the budget was approved as presented.
Mayor Rose noted community engagement in recent events: "We estimate somewhere between 450 and 500 people came through" the city Trunk-or-Treat, with 21 groups or businesses participating, and he thanked staff for organizing the event.
The approvals set the city's near-term spending plan and clear the way for the ARPA-funded equipment purchases and the winter event permit. The council discussed rescheduling a working meeting to improve attendance and briefly reviewed options for a possible additional sales-tax proposal, but no formal action on a tax change was taken.
