Public-safety and public-works updates; Cedarville unveils senior center plan

Cedarville — Department heads updated the council on public-works activity, public-safety calls and a new senior-center plan during the Dec. 17 meeting.
Grounds Supervisor Kenny Brenton said crews have been grading roads, cutting brush, digging ditches, placing gravel on several roads and maintaining Street Department grounds; new tires will be placed on the city-owned Caterpillar grader within the week. Alderman Tim Breshears pressed for a timeline to return a leased grader to Caterpillar; Alderman William Saddler said used tires will be installed on the purchased grader and hoses replaced so the leased grader can be returned, hopefully by the end of January.
Police Chief Ken Howard reported 36 citizen calls, three assists to other agencies, 19 citations, 42 warnings, two accidents, four arrests and seven felony and misdemeanor reports filed during the reporting period. Chief Howard also noted Officer Kirkendall has been issuing citations for motorists passing stopped school buses.
Fire Chief Cody Cooper reported two fire calls and 10 medical calls. Chief Cooper said the light-bar and siren have been mounted on the department F250 but that the vehicle still needs decals and a fire-code inspection.
Mayor Deborah Pinkerton said the Christmas tree-lighting event was successful and shared the final plan for the Cedarville Senior Center; ground clearing is underway and the mayor said the project must be completed by 2027. During unfinished business the council reviewed previously distributed guidelines for a Junior Fire Fighter program and raised no implementation questions.
The council recognized Alderman Jon Odom and Alderman Tim Breshears with plaques for 10 years of service before adjourning.
