Cedarville council approves 2025 budget, makes $10,000 principal payments and updates check signers

Cedarville — The City Council approved the 2025 budget and several finance measures during its Dec. 17 meeting, voting unanimously on each item. Mayor Deborah Pinkerton presented Resolution #2024-12-17-01, which the council adopted by a 4-0 vote.
Treasurer Sandy Cook told the council the general fund and street fund are healthy enough to allow additional principal payments on local loans and recommended one-time payments of $10,000 to the fire-truck loan and $10,000 to the road-improvement loan. Alderman William Saddler moved the payment motion; Alderman Tim Breshears seconded and the council approved it 4-0.
Cook also requested updates to the list of check signers on city accounts. The council selected Alderman Roger Johnson and Alderman William Saddler to be added as signers effective Jan. 1, 2025, and removed Alderman Jon Odom and Alderman Tim Breshears. Alderman Jon Odom moved the change and the motion passed 4-0.
During discussion of the 2025 budget, Alderman Tim Breshears questioned a line item for the lease of a Caterpillar grader. City staff explained the lease allocation must remain in the budget until the leased grader is returned; once returned, the funds set aside for the lease payment will be reallocated to general street purposes.
All formal finance motions recorded at the meeting were adopted unanimously. The council concluded its business and adjourned the session later in the agenda.
