Versailles council adopts emergency pay table, advances road loan application and confirms EMS hires

Versailles, Ohio — The Versailles Village Council on July 23 adopted an updated hourly employees compensation table as an emergency measure, authorized state funding applications for a planned street extension and confirmed four emergency medical services hires.
The council voted unanimously to declare Ordinance No. 25-38 an emergency, suspend the rules and adopt the revised 2025 Hourly Employees Compensation Table after the Personnel & Policies Committee recommended the change. Mr. Weaver moved to approve the committee’s recommendation; Mrs. Dieringer seconded and the motion carried with all yeas. The ordinance was read by title by Village Attorney Tom Guillozet.
Council also authorized the Village Administrator to prepare an application to the Ohio Public Works Commission for a 0 percent $250,000 loan toward the N. West Street Extension Phase II project and to apply to the Ohio Department of Development Roadwork Development (629) funds for the same project. Village Administrator Francis described the OPWC loan as part of financing for an estimated $1,000,000 project; Council (Mr. Paulus moved; Mrs. Dieringer seconded) declared the related resolution an emergency and advanced it for immediate consideration. Vote: all yeas.
On personnel matters, Council waived the training reimbursement requirement for five lifeguards (Kayla Magoto, Daniel Waymire, Chloe Steinbrunner, Annabelle Armstrong and Violet Armstrong) on a motion from Mr. Griesdorn. Council also approved employment authorization for Capstone Program students to work in the water/wastewater and electric departments.
The council confirmed four EMS appointments: Jeffrey Sides to an EMT‑Basic position, Kimberly Baker to an EMT‑Intermediate position, Malachi Hughes to an EMT‑Paramedic position, and Alena Flory to an EMT‑Paramedic position contingent upon a satisfactory pre‑employment drug screen. Each appointment was moved and seconded as recorded and passed by unanimous vote.
A consent agenda motion approved the meeting agenda as amended, minutes from July 9 public hearing and regular meeting, the July 23 list of expenditures and acceptance of a $100 donation from Eric Biggs State Farm Insurance for the community pool party. The consent motion passed unanimously.
The meeting closed with routine committee reports and an adjournment at 8:09 p.m.
What happens next: Ordinance No. 25-38 and the emergency resolution will be reflected in forthcoming legislation documents and the Village will proceed with the OPWC and ODOD funding applications for the N. West Street Extension Phase II project.
