Versailles council approves submission of fire and EMS levy questions, updates EMT job descriptions and authorizes EMS hiring

Versailles Village Council on July 9 approved submitting two levy questions to the ballot — one for fire protection and one for emergency medical services — both proposed in excess of the state ten-mill limitation. The council read Resolution No. 25-29 (fire protection) and Resolution No. 25-30 (EMS) by title on their third readings and voted to accept both measures; the minutes record the votes as unanimous approvals.
Council Member Paulus moved and Council Member Steinbrunner seconded the motions to accept the readings as presented; Village Attorney Tom Guillozet read the resolutions by title. Fiscal Officer Kathy Ording later confirmed that the legislation for both levies will be delivered to the Darke County Board of Elections.
At the same meeting the council approved Resolution No. 25-34, which enacts revisions to the job descriptions for EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate and EMT/Paramedic positions. The council moved to declare the resolution an emergency, suspend the rules, read the ordinance by title for second and third readings, and approved it on the same evening.
Under the consent agenda the council approved the appointment of Naomi Evans as a part-time EMT Basic for Versailles EMS. After a closed executive session, the council authorized Fire/EMS Chief Brian Pearson to extend full-time employment offers to up to four candidates for the Emergency Medical Services department; that authorization passed unanimously.
The actions taken on pay-grade descriptions, the hiring authorization and the levy submissions signal the village’s immediate steps to staff and fund its public-safety services. No levy rates, ballot language or effective dates were specified in the meeting record distributed with the minutes.
