Versailles begins McGreevey Road substation design as officials urge renewal of state infrastructure bond program

Village Administrator Francis told council that engineers from GPD Group held a virtual kick‑off on April 22 to begin design work for a new McGreevey Road substation. Topographic surveying and an environmental review are imminent; the village plans to bid major equipment such as the substation transformer, reclosers and regulators in early September and advertise construction bids by the end of October with a goal for the substation to be operational by the end of 2027.

Francis said AMP Transmission will supply the 69 kV transmission power to the substation. He framed the substation program as part of ongoing electric system planning to serve customer growth and to improve reliability following recent testing and maintenance at the E. Water Street substation.

Separately, Administrator Francis and Fiscal Officer Kathy Ording reminded residents of the May 6 primary and urged support for Issue 2, describing it as a ten‑year renewal of the state’s ability to issue bonds for the State Capital Improvement Program and the Local Transportation Improvement Program. Ording said the Village has received $987,415 in grant funds from the state program for multiple projects and received loans in the same amount with 30‑year maturity and 0% interest; the minutes list Woodland Drive, Virginia Street, Klipstine Road and North Central Waterline projects as recipients of that funding.

The council did not vote on Issue 2; the discussion served as an informational reminder to voters and context for the village’s capital program.
