Carson Schwartz, accompanied by his father, presented an Eagle Scout project to the Versailles Village Council on May 14 to document and preserve headstones at Greenlawn Cemetery. His proposal calls for photographing headstones, uploading images and accompanying information to the cemetery’s database, cleaning stones with safe, non‑toxic solutions to remove biological growth and stains, and identifying veterans with military markers.
Council members expressed support and asked Schwartz to consult Gary Condon, a Greenlawn Cemetery Board member, for guidance on approved cleaning approaches. Village Administrator Francis will assist by identifying how many headstones are in the cemetery. Council asked the presenter to return to a future meeting with updates on volunteer numbers and the project timeline.
The project was presented as a community service effort; no formal vote was recorded.
