The Newcastle Select Board voted May 12 to accept a $5,000 ASK grant intended to help the town and neighboring Damscotta study the feasibility of a joint public works department.
The town manager summarized the proposed scope: review staffing, equipment, facility needs, annual budget and legal framework and engage Paul Brown (a state roads consultant) to assist. The board then moved to establish an ad hoc joint working group with Damscotta and appointed Rufus Percy, Thomas Bader and Kevin Sutherland as Newcastle’s representatives. The motion passed by voice vote.
Manager-level staff said the working group will develop a scope of services and bring recommendations to the board; the grant funds will pay study and consultant costs. Board members supported the collaborative review and thanked previous workshop participants for their input.
