The Pocahontas School District board approved the monthly financial report and unanimously adopted the 2025–26 calendar (Option 2) after trustees heard both budget updates and legislative context from Superintendent Dr. Arbuckle.
Dr. Arbuckle said the district is awaiting federal and state reimbursements that typically run behind and reviewed period-seven revenue and expenditure summaries; trustees then voted 4–0 to approve the monthly financials. During the financial discussion, a board member asked where electric-utility lines appear in the register and raised a longer conversation about solar installations and payback assumptions.
The superintendent drew attention to a larger budget risk: federal Title funding supports roughly 13–15 positions in the district (Title I, II, III and other federal funds). He estimated Title-funded positions account for about $340,000 in payroll costs and said, if federal funding were removed or reallocated, the district could face decisions affecting classified and certified posts. He advised caution before committing large recurring salary increases pending federal funding clarity.
On legislation, Dr. Arbuckle summarized two items affecting board procedure and personnel: Senate Bill 90 (if enacted would move public comment to precede action items) and Act 53 (recently signed), which “enables teachers to exit a contract on or before May 15th with written notification to the superintendent,” he said. The superintendent said boards across the state will face the same May 15 exit date for next-year contracts.
The board also approved the recommended retirements and resignations and accepted one immediate hire (Rebecca Matthews as a para professional at MD Williams); those personnel actions were approved by voice vote 4–0.
