Pocahontas board approves baseball remodel add-on, security locks, charging carts and parking repairs

At its regular meeting the Pocahontas School District board approved multiple facility and technology purchases intended to improve campus safety, athletics and device management.
The board voted unanimously to add roughly $4,100 to the previously approved baseball remodel to cover flashing around an air unit at the concession stand, locking windows, a vinyl ceiling in dugouts and bathroom door jamb repairs; the increase brings the total remodel cost to $31,500.
On building security, Superintendent Dr. Arbuckle said the district received a state safety grant of about $136,300 and recommended replacing junior-high door locks and some doors to meet ADA and crash-bar standards. The board accepted Gould Lock & Doors’ quote (about $51,000) to install locks that “will be self-locking where when the teacher goes in the room shuts the door it automatically locks,” a staff member said during the presentation. Trustees voted 4–0 to accept Gould’s proposal.
To reduce Chromebook breakage and repair time, the board approved purchasing charging carts from Data Center Warehouse at $1,745 apiece, the lowest of three quotes presented. The superintendent said frequent Chromebook repairs are consuming technician time and charging carts will help manage devices for take-home programs.
For parking-lot maintenance, the board selected Michelle’s Excavating after reviewing two quotes and approved spending up to $33,000 to account for weather-related changes in cost; trustees agreed to schedule the work over spring break if possible.
Separately, the board approved removing older copiers from inventory to offer them for sale, keeping the best machines for special-education needs, and passed a resolution appointing the district representative to the Northeast Arkansas Education Service Cooperative through June 2027. All actions passed by voice votes recorded as 4–0.
