Board hears progress on fire alarms, door locks, roof repairs and ASB abatement

He said crews who assessed roofs in early December have fixed many of the MD Williams and junior high leaks, but a few problem areas remain—classroom 24 near the main building, a spot by the business building and the visitor side of the gym where water has caused wall panels to bow. "They're slowly knocking them out but now you're getting new ones," Craig said, noting the vendor will return until all leaks are resolved.
The district has begun a multi‑vendor review to replace door hardware and implement a keyed interlock system for about 160–170 doors in the junior high; the work will also address doors that are not ADA compliant. Craig said pricing varies with different interlock systems and that the administration will return with additional details.
Administrators reported that fire‑alarm integration for three buildings is complete: burglar and fire alarms now route through the district security vendor and call Pocahontas dispatch so first responders and administrators are notified of both burglar and fire events.
On asbestos abatement and demolition, the board heard that contracts remain unsigned while the administration awaits final insurance paperwork; abatement was expected to begin next week once documents are complete. The board discussed offering salvageable playground equipment to the city or local schools, or auctioning items on social media.
The session also covered recurring plumbing clogs that prompted the district to revert to previous paper dispensers as a diagnostic step; junior high bathrooms were repainted over Thanksgiving and floors will be resealed over summer.
No formal approvals were taken; board members emphasized completing safety‑critical work quickly and communicating progress to the public.
