The mayor noted Yurgel’s military service beginning in 1969, including deployments to Vietnam and the Gulf Wars, and said Yurgel received two Purple Hearts and completed 34 years of combined active and reserve service, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. The statement also said Yurgel received a scholarship to Penn State to play golf and that he regularly participates in the village Memorial Day event and assists community members with tax help and transportation.
Mayor March said Yurgel’s last game will be Oct. 24, 2025, and thanked him on behalf of council and the village for his service. The remarks were presented as a ceremonial recognition and no formal council action was required.
