Waite Hill council approves cemetery plot sale, hears safety and service updates and adjourns to executive session

The council approved a cemetery plot sale for Carol Shoemaker Soeder after a motion by Richard Steudel and a second from Abby Hiltsley. The roll call vote was Yeas: Kerri Bowden, Abby Hiltsley, Karl Scheucher, Richard Steudel and Stephanie Winterer; Nay: Brian Doty. The motion carried.

Stephanie Winterer, chair of the Safety Committee, deferred to Police Chief Carl Dondorfer, who reported a deceased dog found tied to a tree in Creawood Forest, noted recent assists to the Kirtland Police Department, discussed increased traffic from a Route 6 detour and mentioned a Markell Road pretrial date of Aug. 26, 2025. Winterer highlighted concerns about Lake County dispatch charges that were part of the committee’s discussion.

Service Director Bob Haynik told the council that emergency repairs were required on the Eagle Road hill, asphalt patching was ongoing, and crack sealing is scheduled for September or October. Haynik said the department’s large service truck is being cleaned and prepared for sale on govdeals.com with an estimated cash value of about $25,000.

Later in the meeting Council member Brian Doty moved and Karl Scheucher seconded to adjourn to executive session to discuss acquisition, leasing or disposition of village property and pending or imminent litigation. The motion passed unanimously by roll call and the council adjourned to executive session at 9:06 a.m. The meeting reconvened at 9:16 a.m., after which Doty moved to adjourn; the motion carried and the meeting ended at 9:16 a.m.
