Council members approved purchases and contracts to support an electric service extension requested by Weaver Bros., a local processing plant that needs 277/480V three-phase power to operate a new air compressor and to allow future equipment upgrades to 480V.
The village approved purchase of a 1500 kVA 277/480V padmount transformer from Sunbelt-Solomon for $47,060. Council also authorized two contracts to complete the work: Ruhenkamp Boring for conduit installation ($52,478.10) and Vaughn Industries for electric installation services ($49,697.65). The village’s electrical consultant reported contracted services for the extension total $103,675.75 and recommended Weaver Bros. pay the contracted services portion while the village covers material costs and the transformer.
Council classified the project as an economic development emergency to accelerate procurement; Weaver Bros. requested that service be operational within six months. The council approved the contracts unanimously.
Why it matters: the electrical upgrade is intended to support local industry expansion, improve machinery efficiency and reduce future operating costs for Weaver Bros., and could support additional local employment or investment if the company proceeds with planned equipment upgrades.
Next steps: village staff will execute the purchase and contracts and coordinate schedules so construction and transformer delivery can proceed under the agreed timeline.
