Kenny Smith, identified in the meeting as the director of Bay County EMS, told commissioners the county-operated EMS has evolved since its transfer to county control in 1976 into a professional organization staffed by paramedics, advanced emergency medical technicians and support personnel and now responds to thousands of calls a year. Staff recommended the board adopt the proclamation honoring current and former EMS personnel for their service.
Commissioner Schultz moved to approve the proclamation and a colleague seconded the motion; the board voted in favor. Chair Vicky German then read the proclamation, which notes the agency’s role in public safety and community health and designates June 28 as an anniversary date for recognition of EMS contributions.
The action is ceremonial: it recognizes personnel and the department’s history and does not create a new program or budget line. The proclamation was adopted as presented and the board invited EMS staff for a photo following the vote.
