Thayne council approves subdivision, budget ordinances, permits and routine bills

The Thayne Town Council approved a new subdivision and several routine municipal measures at its May 17 meeting.
Surveyor Marlo Scherbel presented the Georgette Harman Subdivision, called Jett Bond Estates; Councilman Woolley moved to approve the subdivision, Councilman Schwab seconded and the motion carried. The council also approved Ordinances 330 through 335 — the Town of Thayne 2018–2019 budget — on third and final reading (motion by Councilman Heward, seconded by Councilman Woolley). Motions to approve Ordinance 336 (Lower Valley Energy franchise tax) and Ordinance 337 (Silver Star Communications franchise tax) on second reading also carried, with movers and seconders recorded in the transcript.
The council granted a one-day open container permit requested by Angela Jennings after Mayor A. DeLand Lainhart asked for comment; Councilman Heward moved approval and Councilman Woolley seconded. The meeting record shows the council ratified checks and voted to pay bills after returning from executive session; motions to ratify check approvals and to pay bills were carried.
Council business also included approval to continue Simon Olson’s lawn-care contract for a second year (motion by Councilman Heward, seconded by Councilman Woolley) and a motion by Mayor Lainhart to enter executive session at 6:15 p.m.; the council returned to regular session at 6:22 p.m. and the transcript records that no action was taken during the executive session. The meeting adjourned at 6:44 p.m.

What's next: The council retained $21,454 from a Thayne Business Park grant that must be used before July 2018; staff were asked to check whether additional street lighting could be installed on Hokanson Ave to match King Street.
