Resident raises long-running Franklin Street spring problem; council to schedule workshop with landowners

Debbie Merica addressed the Thayne Town Council June 21 about persistent problems on Franklin Street (formerly King Street), saying the issue has persisted since 2006 and has discouraged development.
Merica told the council that earlier requirements placed on the Merica and Stoker families required paving Franklin Street as lots sold, and she said a recent potential buyer withdrew because the road remains unfinished and because of a spring at the corner of Franklin and Wright Streets. She said the spring sits in the town road right-of-way and must be addressed before further development can proceed.
Mayor A. DeLand Lainhart suggested installing a cul-de-sac as an alternative to a through street, but Merica said a cul-de-sac would not resolve the underlying spring issue. The council agreed to schedule a workshop meeting that will include principal landowners to seek a solution for Franklin and Wright Streets.
