South Bloomfield police report new cruisers, radios and DHS training

Chief Michael Maynard updated the Village of South Bloomfield council Monday on department operations, equipment and training plans.
Maynard said two new cruisers have been delivered to Parr Public Safety and are being outfitted; he is “hoping to have the cruisers ready to be on the road by mid‑May.” The department also launched a new Facebook page the chief said will be managed by Lieutenants Wells and Hempstead for public announcements and community outreach. Maynard displayed newly designed uniform patches on the page and described planned cruiser graphics updates with vendor Parr.
On radios, Maynard said the department’s new Motorola portable radios have arrived and will replace outdated portables. An inventory of in‑car radios showed two vehicles need replacements; the department plans to reassign radios from other cruisers temporarily and has budgeted to add two replacement in‑car radios in 2026.
Maynard also announced the department will host a Department of Homeland Security course on May 16 covering prevention and response to terrorist incidents. The chief asked the council if there were any objections to disposal of a list of old electronics; council members voted to allow destruction of those items.
The council did not take separate action on equipment purchases at the meeting; Maynard identified interim steps and budget planning items for future consideration.
