South Bloomfield council discusses pursuing a village charter and several mayoral proposals

Mayor Aaron Thomas told the council on Jan. 21, 2025, that he will pursue guidance on the process to adopt a village charter and has contacted OML to assist; councilmembers noted Buckeye Lake and Plain City as local examples and asked Mayor Thomas to reach out to them for advice. Councilmember Ken Everts specifically asked for someone experienced to meet with the council to help start the charter process.
On personnel and benefits, Mayor Thomas reported that 11 full-time staff responded to an inquiry about a potential gym membership benefit and seven indicated interest; council agreed to direct the solicitor to draft an ordinance should they choose to pursue the benefit. The mayor also confirmed that any employee raises must be enacted by ordinance per solicitor advice.
The mayor said letters went to residents on Pettibone Place seeking input about a potential street-name change; “Stagecoach” and “Denny” were suggested during the meeting and residents were invited to the council’s second February meeting to comment.
The council recorded upcoming dates including Mayor's Court on Feb. 4 and a blood drive on Feb. 7, and approved routine motions to pay bills and adjourn.
