South Bloomfield council delays Pettibone Place renaming, will seek resident input

Council members voted down a direct rename of Pettibone Place to Stagecoach Place and instead unanimously approved postponing the decision so affected residents can weigh in at the Feb. 18 meeting.
Mayor Aaron Thomas said the council would revisit a proposed renaming of Pettibone Place after receiving public input. Council considered previously suggested names—Stagecoach, Denny and Creighton—and additional suggestions from residents.
Lisa McDorman moved to change Pettibone Place to Stagecoach Place; the motion failed with recorded “no” votes from Ken Everts, Woody Blanton, Tom Ramsay, Lisa McDorman, Dena Cobb and Amber Murphy. After that vote, Amber Murphy moved to delay the decision until the Feb. 18 meeting so the council could solicit input from affected residents; Woody Blanton seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The council’s action means no street-name change will be implemented until the village collects and considers feedback from residents who would be directly affected. The Feb. 18 meeting is the next scheduled opportunity for public comment on the matter.
The council did not specify a preferred replacement name; Stagecoach, Denny and Creighton were the names previously suggested and additional names were offered by resident Randy Rensko during the meeting.
