Several members of the Wellesley Select Board told colleagues on April 6, 2026, that the Residential Incentive Overlay (RIO) Task Force’s finalized report, which was distributed to Town Meeting Members, mischaracterized the Board’s February 10 discussion of Article 32.
Board members said portions of the report presented an unbalanced narrative and included opinion rather than a neutral analysis of the Select Board’s deliberations about entering into a development agreement under Article 32. Members also raised that the task force was composed largely of volunteers with limited municipal experience and suggested that additional staff, consultant, or technical support might have improved the report, while acknowledging the task force had done substantial work and made meaningful progress.
The Select Board did not take formal action on the report at the April 6 meeting; the report remained in the record for Town Meeting Members, and the discussion was recorded as part of preparatory remarks ahead of Annual Town Meeting.
