The Chebeague Island School Committee voted April 23 to adopt the fiscal year 2025 budget for Chebeague Island School at $1,286,170.
School Committee Chair Elizabeth Doughty moved to approve the budget, and Jeff Putnam seconded; the motion passed unanimously, 4-0-0. The committee also approved putting $92,427.54 into the budget as revenue intended to offset the tax burden on residents, a motion likewise moved by Doughty and seconded by Putnam that passed 4-0-0.
The committee reviewed the budget's major cost centers: regular education $526,243; special education $224,890; staff and student support $35,451; systems administration $129,083; building administration $30,497; transportation $122,319; facilities and grounds $64,060; debt service $107,923; and all other $45,704. Chair Doughty set a public budget information meeting for Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the Hall to present the plan and answer questions.
The vote followed routine approvals of the meeting agenda and prior minutes earlier in the session. Courtney Doughty, who submitted a letter read into the record, said she had reviewed and supported the FY25 budget and would have voted to accept it if present.
Next steps include the public presentation on May 22 and routine budget finalization steps with the town.
