Chebeague Island School Committee reviews FY25 budget, moves to interview superintendent candidates

CHEBEAGUE ISLAND, Maine — The Chebeague Island School Committee met March 5 and reviewed the proposed fiscal year 2025 school budget while advancing its superintendent search to the interview stage.
School Committee Chair Elizabeth Doughty called the meeting to order at 5:11 p.m. Committee members approved the meeting agenda after a motion by School Committee member Nancy Earnest, seconded by School Committee member Courtney Doughty; the motion carried, 5-0-0. The committee also approved the Feb. 27, 2024 minutes on a motion by Earnest, seconded by Courtney Doughty, 5-0-0.
There was no public comment. The committee noted receipt of a notice from Selectboard member Bob Earnest that the Town Selectboard has adopted a Code of Ethics for committee work. Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick said information was sent to the school about parent usage of the CTC for school-related functions and that the lead teacher is reviewing the 2024–25 school calendar and will recommend workshop days.
Under old business members reported on school sustainability efforts. Committee members said a recent parent/community meeting was well attended and that an island community meeting is scheduled for March 13, 2024; members Jeff Putnam and Nancy Earnest noted they will be unable to attend that date. On personnel, the committee stated it is moving into the interview phase of the superintendent hiring process.
On new business the committee reviewed each line in the FY25 budget. Members suggested recommendations and changes; those revisions will be made and presented at the next meeting. A warrant was presented for signature (the minutes note the warrant but do not specify the signatories or outcome).
The committee scheduled its next meeting for Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Chebeague Island School; a Zoom link will be provided because the superintendent will attend remotely. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
