Town administrator: sheriff to respond to residents’ postal concerns; Emergency Operations Plans to be reviewed

At the July 2 meeting of the Town of Acton Select Board, Town Administrator Jennifer Roux said Deputy Sanborn of the Sheriff’s Department had been contacted and asked to review public comments from the prior meeting and respond directly to residents about their concerns.
Roux also read a letter from Senator Collins’ office that addressed postal-service complaints from some Acton residents; the letter included a web link for filing complaints that Roux said will be posted on the town website and included in the town newsletter.
On emergency preparedness, Roux reported the EMA Director had circulated the town’s Emergency Operations Plans to department heads and asked for a two-week review period before a follow-up meeting is scheduled to align on changes.
During public comment, resident Bernard Broder described a recent incident on Route 109 where, he said, flaggers allowed opposing traffic to move and a non-flagging crew intervened to stop traffic. Broder said the situation was "kind of a mess" and that he appreciated that Select Board member David Winchell planned to contact state supervisors on residents' behalf. Broder also thanked the Select Board and staff for a volunteer appreciation dinner following the passing of Greg Kane and singled out staffer Jennifer, saying, "I do not know how she does it, but I am glad she does." The board noted Town Hall would be closed Friday, July 4, in observance of the holiday and out of respect for Kane's passing.
Roux read highlights from the Sheriff Department's June log for the board and noted that Transfer Station operations have moved to Waste Management; Town Administrator and staff praised the smooth transition reported by Superintendent John Rouleau.
No formal board action was taken on the sheriff or EMA items; the matters were informational and routed for administrative follow-up.
