The Chebeague Island Selectboard on May 6 approved several administrative and coastal-infrastructure actions ahead of the June annual town meeting.
Coastal grants and contracting: The board authorized the Town Administrator to sign a professional-services contract with FB Environmental for up to $18,000 to support implementation of a Maine Department of Environmental Protection sand dune grant. The motion was moved by Selectboard member Eliza Jane Adams, seconded by Ehrhardt Groothoff; the minutes record a 4–0 vote in favor with Selectboard member Carol White recused. Separately, the Town Administrator reported confirmation of an $80,000 SHIP grant toward commercial float and ramp improvements.
Communications and administration: The board voted to authorize up to $2,300 from the Selectboard contingency fund to cover setup costs and the first-year fee for transitioning to the TextMyGov text-alert system. That motion was moved by David Hill, seconded by Richard Hackel and recorded as unanimous.
Budget and meeting planning: The board reviewed a near-final draft of the June 2026 Annual Town Meeting warrant and noted that reserve account balance fields remain pending reconciliation. Members discussed a joint budget workshop with the School Board and Finance Committee scheduled for May 13, 2026 to present municipal and school budgets, set presentation order and time limits, and prepare a budget mailing for residents.
Other business and personnel: The board discussed preparing a grant application to the Maine Infrastructure Adaptation Fund to cover costs for the Stone Wharf project not covered by FEMA; the application amount was under discussion pending estimates and anticipated bid results. The chair reviewed the board’s email protocol for full-board communications, and the Inn reported it is hosting a volunteer event with the Maine Island Trails Association and the “Chickadees” group, expected to involve about 70 volunteers for 1.5 hours in September.
Executive session and appointment: The board entered executive session at 7:45 p.m. under 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(A) (personnel) and exited at 8:23 p.m. After the session the board voted to appoint Mary Holt to the Ad Hoc Comprehensive Plan Committee; the motion was moved by Eliza Jane Adams, seconded by David Hill, and recorded as carried.
The Selectboard also approved minutes from April 15 and April 28, 2026 and adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
