The Acton Select Board voted unanimously on May 14 to approve a Mass Gathering Permit for Iron Tails’ Bike Week, scheduled for June 14–22, 2025.
The Town Administrator presented the application and told the Board the applicant, Mr. Martinez, had submitted required liability insurance and paid permit fees. The application covered multiple outdoor contracted shows, raves and burnout competitions during Bike Week. "The application set before the Select Board tonight is for bike week only, June 14th - June 22," the Town Administrator said.
Winchell moved to approve the permit; Walsh seconded and the Board voted "all in favor." The Select Board noted that mass-gathering permits will be coordinated with liquor-license scheduling; two pending liquor-license requests (Barn Lights and Iron Tails) were mentioned as likely to be scheduled on the same night, June 4.
Fire Chief Wayne Ham reminded the Board that mass gatherings typically require on-site Fire/EMT coverage and proposed a $60 hourly rate for event coverage to reflect rising employee pay and vehicle costs; he said applicants would be expected to cover 100% of those costs. The Board and staff said they will reconstruct the ordinance and prepare a rate schedule with staffing- and equipment-based tiers before finalizing chargeable rates.
Next steps: the Town Administrator and Fire Department will finalize coverage requirements and a rate schedule; the applicant must comply with any event-safety conditions tied to the permit.
