Acton Select Board approves two liquor licenses and authorizes road ditching

The Town of Acton Select Board on June 4 approved liquor licenses for Barn Lights Events and Weddings, LLC, and Iron Tails Enterprise, and authorized a package of ditching and culvert repairs for several rural roads.
Town Administrator Jennifer Roux told the board that both liquor license applications had been advertised, insurance and fees were in order, and neither the Code Officer nor the Fire Chief raised objections. Regarding Barn Lights, owner Paul Cole Coletro said the venue had "hosted two proms and [is] part of the community" through reunions and other events. After brief remarks, Ed Walsh moved to close the Barn Lights public hearing; Jon Denekamp seconded and the board voted unanimously to close and later to grant the license.
At the Iron Tails public hearing, the sheriff's monthly report showed multiple traffic stops, accidents on Route 109, a number of burglary/false alarm calls and a few open 911 calls. Greg Martinez explained many of the alarms are triggered by deliveries and by turnover of drivers who do not always have door codes or follow the check-in process; he said the sheriff's office "had no issues" with the application. Local resident Bernard Broder spoke in support of Iron Tails, calling it a "well-run business" and saying some incidents are to be expected given the business type; he noted that the most frequent neighbor complaint is noise. After public comment, Denekamp moved to close the Iron Tails hearing; Walsh seconded and the motion carried. The board then approved Iron Tails' license unanimously.
Separately, the board approved a set of road maintenance scopes presented by Road Commissioner Will Langley. The approved work includes ditching and culvert clean-outs on Sam Page Road (with a possible 12 yards of rip rap estimated at $6,981.60), shoulder cleanup on Youngs Ridge/Finch Road, maintenance on Hopper Road, and installation of a filtration catch basin on West Shore Drive. Chair David Winchell moved to approve the projects; Walsh seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
