Select Board tables Renaissance Faire approval; appoints Tucker Brown as Planning Board alternate

At its May 7 meeting, the Acton Select Board heard from Renaissance Faire organizers about traffic-control plans and staffing, and it appointed Tucker Brown as an alternate to the Planning Board.
Organizers Melissa Huard and David Brown told the board they hired a professional traffic crew to manage this year’s event, will not collect donations on site, and have ordered additional no-parking signage for surrounding streets. Organizers and staff discussed EMS coverage; Huard said contacting EMS was her first priority once permits were granted. The Fire Chief will meet with the event organizers to make a recommendation to the Select Board on EMS staffing and other safety logistics, and the Select Board tabled a final decision until next week to allow that meeting and recommendation.
During public comment, James Kitteridge asked whether speakers at the podium must be Acton residents; the Select Board said they do not. Phil Caruso praised a recent sheltering training run by York County EMA and noted five new volunteers signed up. Ray Lopez questioned fees associated with the Acton Fairgrounds and jested that the Town should charge $115,000 to cover police, a comment the Town Administrator clarified was not an official fee proposal.
The board also moved and approved an appointment: Jon Denekamp made a motion to appoint Tucker Brown as Planning Board alternate through June 30, 2026; Ed Walsh seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
What happens next: The Select Board awaits the Fire Chief’s recommendation; the Renaissance Faire decision is tabled to the next meeting. The Planning Board alternate appointment takes effect immediately and will be reflected in subsequent board rosters.
