At its June 9 meeting the Tazewell Town Council handled several routine administrative items and small awards.
Council approved minutes from May 12 and related special meetings and then approved the May 2026 financial statements by voice vote. The council adopted a resolution to implement a Section 125 cafeteria (flexible benefits) plan effective July 1, 2026; Joseph Rasley read and certified the resolution as adopted in the meeting record.
On discretionary donations, the council considered a written request from the Tazewell football boosters. An initial $1,000 motion was amended to conform with the town’s discretionary-donation guidelines and the council approved a $700 donation to be applied in the next fiscal year.
Council also heard a request from the Tazewell County Historical Society for additional support for a Main Street camera and operating costs. Council discussed budget constraints and potential budget amendments and agreed to table that request so staff can gather additional financial detail and, if appropriate, invite the society’s representative to a future meeting.
These routine approvals and the small donation decisions were carried by voice votes recorded in the meeting transcript.
