The Woolwich Township Committee unanimously adopted R-2025-282 on Oct. 20 to accept Local Efficiency Achievement Program (LEAP) grant funding and to award a contract to CGR to conduct a feasibility study for a regional professional fire company, amended to not exceed $67,000.
The Fire Chief presented a report that included the township's SAFER grant award and noted an urgent need to replace the ladder truck. Committee members expressed strong support for pursuing purchase of a replacement ladder truck and discussed potential charging-for-service ordinance language. The committee requested a copy of the RFQ for its files before finalizing contract terms.
Mayor Matthias announced a town hall on Nov. 10 focusing on the fire company overview, including the SAFER grant, the LEAP regional-fire study, the potential truck purchase and the implications for daytime staffing and local businesses and residents. The feasibility study is intended to examine options for a regional arrangement and will inform future decisions on consolidation or shared services.
