Mahtomedi council hears plan for a Southwest Park dog park, bids to be issued

City staff presented a design for a two-area dog park at Southwest Park with separate small- and all-breed areas, parking, fencing, trail, benches and water sourced from a bored line from the wellhouse; staff expect to put the project out to bid soon.
Project Manager Candace Amberg outlined a proposed dog park at Southwest Park to Mahtomedi’s City Council on May 19. The design calls for separate small-breed and all-breed areas, 11 parking stalls including one accessible stall, chain-link fencing in the small-dog area and post-and-wire fencing in the all-breed area, a three-foot compacted-soil trail, benches, a drinking fountain, a message board, and trash and dog-waste stations.
Public Works Director Bob Goebel said water service will be provided by boring a waterline from the wellhouse and performing the installation with city crews. Amberg said resident concerns were addressed and that a buffer between the park and nearby homes had been incorporated into the design. She said the city anticipates issuing the bid package soon.
