Martinez confirmed as Mendota mayor; Jose Alonso named mayor pro tem
Summary

The Mendota City Council voted Dec. 10 to confirm its post-election reorganization, appointing Victor Martinez to the office of mayor and Jose Alonso to mayor pro tempore.
Council first adopted Resolution No. 24-68 to confirm the consolidated general election returns from Nov. 5, 2024. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Mayor Martinez and seconded by Council Member Jose Alonso; the resolution was recorded as approved and the city clerk administered the oath of office to three newly elected council members: Jose Alonso, Jesus "Jesse" Mendoza and Joseph R. Riofrio.
City Clerk Cabrera-Garcia opened nominations for the council’s reorganization. Council Member Jose Alonso nominated Council Member Victor Martinez for mayor; Council Member Jesse Mendoza seconded the motion. Martinez accepted the nomination. The council then enacted a roll-call vote that appointed Martinez to the office of mayor by a vote of five ayes.
Nominations for mayor pro tempore followed. Mayor Martinez nominated Council Member Jose Alonso; Council Member Joseph R. Riofrio seconded the nomination. Alonso accepted and was appointed mayor pro tempore by a roll-call vote of five ayes.
Both appointments were formalized by the clerk’s roll-call process and recorded in the meeting minutes. The council took a brief recess at 6:05 p.m. and reconvened to continue other business.
