Council discussion focused on parking access linked to the Amador and Smoot Extension Project and the possibility of additional city funding to support the center. Wilson described the layout proposal and council members asked follow-up questions about site access and how additional parking from the extension project could serve center users.
During the public comment period (opened at 6:44 p.m.), Joshua Garcia asked whether Rojas-Pierce Park’s existing parking lot would be reconstructed, whether Westside Youth Inc.’s open market would continue to operate in that lot, and urged the city to include veterans recognition in the center’s plans. Albert Escobedo asked whether the Senior Center portion of the building would have a dedicated restroom.
No formal funding decision or vote on the layout was recorded at the meeting. The council’s next step was to continue discussion and identify funding options; Mayor Pro Tem Lopez requested further information and staff follow-up on parking and project funding.
