Star Valley Ranch announces voluntary chlorination, Green Canyon tank lining pre-construction

At the Sept. 9 Star Valley Ranch Town Council meeting, Mayor Rok announced the town would begin voluntary, reduced-level chlorination of the drinking-water system after recent positive total coliform (TC) test results and said the pre-construction conference for the Green Canyon Water Storage Tank lining is scheduled for Sept. 15.

Mayor Rok told residents the lining work is expected to be completed by late September or early October, weather permitting, and that updates would be shared via email and on the town website. She framed voluntary chlorination as a proactive measure to manage water quality and possibly avoid a direct mandate from the Environmental Protection Agency, noting the town has not identified a definitive source for the TC results.

During public comment, Ms. Christenson of Plat 5 asked whether nearby septic dumping could have caused the TC positives; Mayor Rok said there was no connection because the sewer system and the drinking-water distribution system are separate. The mayor added that council members discussed at the earlier work session whether the ongoing water-line work (which involves opening and flushing lines) could be a speculative factor, but she called that only speculation at this stage. Administrator Aitken said the Green Canyon lining project and water-work schedule are being coordinated with contractors.

No mandatory action or outside directive was announced; the council described the steps as voluntary and operational while the town monitors results and coordinates tank lining and water-line work.
