Star Valley Ranch council approves zoning update; bans data centers and bitcoin mining in commercial zone

The Star Valley Ranch Town Council approved Ordinance 2025-07 on second reading Thursday, updating Title XV (Land Usage, Chapter 154) to add permitted uses and to create a conditional-use permit process for the commercial zone while explicitly prohibiting data centers and bitcoin mining there.
Councilman Ellis presented the ordinance, saying it "basically creates the process for a conditional use permit and specifies data centers and bitcoin mining would not be permitted in the commercial zone," and moved for approval. Councilman Merrill seconded the motion; the council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance.
The ordinance was presented with no changes since the prior reading. The council did not record additional amendments during Thursday's vote. The measure takes effect according to the town's ordinance-adoption procedures.
