Kettering City Council took a series of formal actions on Oct. 15, approving all motions and resolutions recorded in the evening’s proceedings. Key outcomes:
• BZA affirmation — Council adopted a resolution affirming the Board of Zoning Appeals decision in case BZA-25-00007 concerning 817 Kenosha Road. The Law Director said the resolution affirms the BZA’s stated reasons.
• Appointment — The council authorized Brian Shidowski to serve as executive director of the Miami Valley Research Park Association; the city serves as developer for the park.
• Grants — The council approved acceptance/application for multiple grants: a $21,000 Montgomery County OVI task-force grant (Ohio Department of Public Safety) to reimburse overtime for enforcement in 2025–2026; a $16,000 livable and age-friendly communities grant (Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission/Dayton Foundation) to buy an adaptive bicycle for the Lynam Senior Center; and authorization to apply for a $10,000 NRPA grant for expanded recycling in parks. The city also accepted a $13,240 Montgomery County human-services grant to support senior transportation services.
• Capital and contracts — Council authorized competitive procurement for removal and replacement of concrete within parks (estimated $85,000); approved an amendment to the Adventure Reef waterpark drainage-trench repair project (revised total $77,430 to cover additional concrete work discovered during construction); and authorized contracting with Athetherton Plumbing (quote listed in the packet) to replace and upsize gas piping at Rosewood Arts Center (approx. $37,293) funded from under-spending in other CIP projects.
• ODOT authorization — Council authorized the city manager to execute related contracts for ODOT project 835-2.57P16922 (a state-led bridge replacement on State Route 835/Research Boulevard) with bidding slated in late 2026 and construction in 2027.
• Finance — Council approved supplemental appropriations of $37,000 to allow the city to expend the two grants authorized earlier that evening.
