Kettering City Council on July 8 approved a resolution to apply for and accept grant funds from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for the Kettering Municipal Court and subsequently approved a supplemental appropriation to budget the award.
Staff said the Bureau of Community Sanctions grant provides funding to probation departments and community-based correctional facilities to adopt evidence-based practices that reduce probation violations. The Kettering Municipal Court was awarded $349,230 to cover a two-year period; the funds include support for a full-time probation officer and require no city matching funds, staff said.
Mr. Grez (staff) described the program and noted the court has been a grant recipient in prior funding cycles dating to 2015. Council approved the grant resolution and the supplemental appropriation by unanimous roll call votes.
The appropriation makes the award available in the city’s budget so the court can expend the funds over the next two years. Staff said they will follow standard grant administration and reporting requirements to the state.
