The Washington County Personnel Committee voted June 11 to add one temporary Highway Worker I for the summer season and confirmed several previously approved backfills for county departments.
The committee meeting in Fort Edward approved amending the county’s staffing pattern to add the seasonal Highway Worker I position. The motion to amend the staffing pattern was moved by Mrs. Clary, seconded by Messrs. Rozell and Wang, and adopted. Committee members said the position is the flagging role discussed earlier and that it will sunset at the end of the summer season; Chairman Hall confirmed that timeline.
Personnel Officer Danelle LaPann told the committee that the county changed its backfill process to allow the Personnel Officer and the County Administrator to approve backfills without waiting for committee action. LaPann reported the following approved or pending backfills: a Buildings & Grounds Building Maintenance Mechanic vacancy (vacated May 13, 2026, resignation); a DPW Highway Worker II vacancy (vacated May 7, 2026, promotion); a DSS Caseworker vacancy (vacated May 20, 2026, reappointment to Social Services Examiner); and two additional DSS Caseworker vacancies with resignations effective June 16 and June 30, 2026.
The staffing changes are intended to support summer road and facilities operations. The committee did not record vote tallies in the minutes; minutes show motions were seconded and adopted. The meeting adjourned at 9:34 a.m.
